A Joyful, Romantic October Wedding | Madison & Payton

Some love stories feel like they were written long before two people ever meet. For Madison and Payton, that story began in a small beach town Cape Charles, Virginia, where both of their families have deep roots. Years later, surrounded by the people they love most, they would begin their next chapter together.

Their October wedding was a beautiful reminder that the most meaningful celebrations aren’t necessarily the biggest or most elaborate. The most magical days are the ones that feel the most like you and your love story.

A Love Story That Began in Cape Charles

Cape Charles has always held a special place in Madison and Payton’s hearts. Madison’s family has a house in the charming coastal town, which happens to be the very same house where Payton’s mother grew up. Long before Madison and Payton officially met, their families were already connected to the same little corner of Virginia.

About eight summers ago, Madison’s family was spending the Fourth of July in Cape Charles when they met the Holdsworth family. Payton wasn’t there that summer, but Madison quickly became friends with his sister. Their friendship eventually led to Madison and Payton meeting.

For Madison, it didn’t take long to realize there was something special about him.

“It was love at first sight.”

Looking back, it’s easy to see how meaningful their story is. Two families, one beloved beach town, and a connection that began years before Madison and Payton knew they would one day become husband and wife. Cape Charles will always be a special part of their story, but their wedding day would bring that love story home to another place that meant just as much.

The Engagement

When Payton proposed in December 2024, Madison hadn’t necessarily imagined planning a wedding quite so soon. But when the couple realized they both wanted an October wedding, the timeline began to fall into place.

After talking with her mom, Madison remembers hearing the words that helped make it all happen: “Well, we don’t need two years to plan a wedding. Let’s do it October 2025!”

And just like that, the countdown was on.

The couple considered getting married in Cape Charles or at The Lilly Pad in Richmond, Virginia. Madison grew up along the James River, right next door to The Lilly Pad, and her parents still live in the same childhood home. It was a place filled with memories, familiarity, and a deep sense of belonging.

The decision felt natural.

Madison knew The Lilly Pad would be the perfect place to marry the love of her life, and she trusted the venue’s owners, Max and Karen, to help create an unforgettable experience.

Her vision was never about making the day feel overly formal or extravagant. Instead, she wanted a joyful celebration filled with love, meaningful moments, and the people who had supported them along the way.

She also wanted to enjoy the planning process without getting caught up in every little detail. By settling on the decorations early, she could focus on what mattered most as the wedding approached.

Getting Ready at Home

One of the sweetest parts of Madison and Payton’s wedding day was how much it reflected their lives before they became husband and wife.

Madison spent the morning getting ready with her bridesmaids at her childhood home. There is something incredibly special about beginning such an important chapter in the same place where so many of your own memories were made.

Nothing about the day felt forced or overdone. It was thoughtful, personal, and full of little details that made it unmistakably theirs.

As the day unfolded, Madison made a conscious effort to let go of the timeline and all the little things she had pictured in her head throughout the planning process. And somehow, the day turned out even more beautifully than she could have imagined.

Finding The Dress

Madison has always been someone who knows what she likes. Even when choosing dresses for prom or homecoming, she had a clear vision for the style, color, and fit she wanted.

Naturally, she had spent plenty of time imagining what her wedding dress might look like, too.

Once she and Payton chose October and settled on The Lilly Pad, her vision became clearer. She headed to Annalise Bridal for her first dress appointment, knowing what she thought she wanted but remaining open to trying different styles.

After trying on several dresses that didn’t feel quite right, Madison slipped into the Kelly Faetanini Forest gown.

And she knew.

It was the dress she had been waiting for. She fell in love with it immediately and never once doubted her decision afterward.

What Vendor Was Worth the Splurge?

Their photographers, Kartsie Photography, were good family friends from Florida who would have been invited to the wedding regardless. Having them document such an important day made the experience even more special.

For Madison, the value went far beyond beautiful images. She knew how quickly the day would pass, and she wanted photographs that would allow her and Payton to revisit those memories for years to come.

It’s a reminder for future couples that while some wedding expenses may feel optional, investing in the ability to relive your memories can be one of the most meaningful decisions you make.

Advice for Future Brides

“Soak it all in”

Everyone says the wedding day goes by quickly, but experiencing it for yourself makes those words feel entirely different.

Madison encourages brides to slow down, especially during the morning while getting ready. Take a moment to look around the room. Thank your bridesmaids, your mom, and your mother-in-law for being there. Appreciate the people who helped bring your day to life.

And if you’re considering a first look, she wholeheartedly recommends it.

For her, the first look wasn’t just about photographs. It was about having a meaningful moment with Payton before the ceremony, easing the nerves, and being able to share part of the day together rather than waiting until the afternoon to see one another.

Her biggest takeaway is to be present. The decorations, timeline, and carefully planned details are all part of the experience, but the people and the memories are what you’ll carry with you long after the wedding is over.
